Restoration is hard work and it doesn’t end when the structures are removed and appropriate vegetation is planted. The real success occurs when the wildlife respond. With the latest expansion of the Albany Rapp Road Waste Management Facility, comes the restoration of 250 acres to Albany Pine Bush Preserve habitat. Join us this evening for a lecture from Michael McGraw, Wildlife Biologist/Ecologist with Applied Ecological Services, as he details the results of wildlife surveys in the restoration area. Join us for snacks and discussion at 6:30pm, the lecture will begin at 7:00pm. Ages 15+. Free!

Documenting the spread of invasive species is the first step in managing and controlling them. This evening, learn how to join our citizen science community by participating in iMap Invasives, a tool to identify and document the spread of invasive species. If you have a smart device please bring it with you. Ages 15+. Free!

Thursday, June 15, 2017 @ Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center (6/15/2017 -> 6:30pm–8:30pm ) (195 New Karner Road Albany NY 12205)

Research on habitat, population growth, and the timing of fire have played a critical role in restoring the Karner blue to the Albany Pine Bush and elsewhere. Innovative studies unlocked exactly how fire benefits the Karner blue by tracing the effect of fire through soil, lupine, and Karner blue eggs, providing the secret of population explosions. Scientists tested this approach in captivity and in the wild, and it worked- the butterflies are booming. Join us this evening with Stephen Fuller, PhD, as he talks about his work with the Karner blue. Join us for snacks and discussion at 6:30pm, the lecture will begin at 7:00pm. Ages 15+. Free!
