About the Fair
The Great New York State Fair is a 13-day showcase of agriculture, entertainment, education and technology. With midway rides, concessionaires, exhibits, and concerts, it has become New York’s largest annual event and an end-of-summer tradition for hundreds of thousands of families from all corners of the state. It is the oldest and one of the largest state fairs in the United States, with over one million visitors annually.
For fairgoers the Fair’s general admission gates open at 7:00am daily and close at 10:00pm, except for Labor Day, when the entire grounds close at 9:00pm. Exhibit buildings are open from 10:00am to 10:00pm, with the exception of Labor Day when they close at 9:00pm.
During the 2018 State Fair regular daily admission tickets are $10 every day except on either Thursday, August 23 or 30 when admission is $3, and both Preview Day, August 22 and Labor Day, September 3 when admission is just $1. Tickets are available at any State Fair gate when you arrive. Additional admission details:
- Children 12 and under are admitted free every day of the fair.
- Students 18 and under are admitted free on Friday, August 31st.
- Senior Citizens’ Days are Monday, August 27th and Tuesday, August 28th when all seniors 60 years and over are admitted free
