Handweaving Show & Sale – 38th year!

The Hudson-Mohawk Weavers’ Guild invites the public to its 38th Annual Show & Sale.  This yearly event returns to the Pruyn House in Colonie from Thursday, November 17 through Sunday, November 20.

The historic Pruyn House serves as a backdrop for the largest display of handweaving in the Northeast.  The event features a wide range of gift options suitable for everyone’s holiday shopping list.  Two full floors of this beautiful restored home host the exhibits, with each room devoted to a different offering, from housewares to one-of-a-kind wearables such as scarves, shawls and jackets.  Holiday gifts including cards and ornaments are also available.  Admission and off-street parking are free. Visitors can watch fashion shows featuring handwoven fashions and observe demonstrations of both handweaving and spinning.

“The scarf room hosts nearly 500 handwoven scarves each year, with displays along every wall,” said Guild President Nancy Sharples.  “Scarves are our most popular item, since they make great gifts, but we also have hundreds of handwoven towels, two full rooms of jackets and other garments, and a wide variety of small gift items,” she continued.

The Show & Sale features an evolving line-up of artists, with new items and exhibitors each year.  Over 500 people attended the 2015 event, and Weavers’ Guild expects an even larger audience this year.  The Show & Sale is staffed exclusively by Guild members, giving the public a chance to meet the makers and learn more about this craft.

“The Show & Sale is not only a unique shopping experience, but also an educational event. Every year I see attendees fascinated by the arts of handweaving and spinning, and we always end up with a few new weavers or spinners each year.  We will have information on local teachers and classes at the event for anyone interested in trying out a new activity.” said Sharples.
