Hello H(elsinki) H(udson) F(riend)s:

The Sea the Sea is the title of a Booker Prize-winning novel by Iris Murdoch. It’s also the performing name of the indie folk-pop duo of Chuck E. Costa and Mira Stanley. Both singer-songwriters, they accompany each other on acoustic and electric guitars, and weave their voices in and out of each other’s. You can see how this plays out in their official video for “Love We Are We Love,” and in this live version of them performing “How Will We Know.”
The Sea the Sea brings its infectious melodies, patented harmonies, and lilting rhythms to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, May 25, at 9pm.
The duo’s latest album, last year’s “From the Light,” further expanded upon its sound, its tight harmonies, and the acuity of its lyrics, on full display in the songs “Bang Bang Bang” and “Good for Something.”

This upstate New York-based indie folk-pop duo — when not touring, they divide their time between East Chatham, N.Y., and Charleston, W.V. — features what Huffington Post calls, “Two of the loveliest male-female voices you might ever hear this or any other year.”

Their 2014 debut release, “Love We Are We Love,” received praise from NPRAmerican Songwriter, and No Depression, which singled them out for their “well-crafted songs, commanding stage presence and instrumental abilities.”

The cutting-edge animated video for their song “Waiting” sparked viral interest, including from BuzzfeedPitchfork, and inclusion at the international TED 2015 conference.

Mountain Stage host Larry Groce calls them “ready to take their place among the best young male/female duos now performing.” (Mira’s father, Ron Sowell, is the leader of the Mountain Stage Band.)

The group performed “Take That” and “Good for Something” live at the nearby Troy [N.Y.] Savings Bank Music Hall.
