#DutchessCounty in November 2016

Plan Your Holiday Getaway Now!

From tours of our lavishly decorated Great Estates to each town’s tree lighting ceremony, a visit to Dutchess will put you in a festive mood. From Thanksgiving weekend on, tour historic sites dressed in their finest.

  • Staatsburgh’s Mills family adorns many Christmas trees with elaborate ornaments; their floral centerpieces are works of art!
  • The Vanderbilt Mansion is undergoing renovation, but stop by their decorated Visitor Center on 12/4 for “Cookies and Construction” to learn what’s up.
  • Step back to 1901, as the Youngs move into a newly-renovated Locust Grove mansion. Enjoy a scavenger hunt for antique toys, games, & crafts in every room; 5 rooms are themed after Christmas carols!
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Home and Eleanor’s Val-Kill host historic Hyde Park Christmas open houses with free tours on 12/10.
  • FDR Presidential Library & Museum’s Children’s Reading Festival & activities are also 12/10.
  • Florists and designers transform the Wilderstein mansion (FDR’s cousin Daisy’s Rhinebeck home) into a magical holiday wonderland!
  • Each December Sunday, children can solve Holiday Whodunit mysteries at Locust Grove and Staatsburgh.
  • The simple elegance of the colonial era lends itself to Candlelight Tours at night, at Pawling’s John Kane House and Mount Gulian in Fishkill.

Make forever memories on a road trip to choose and cut the family Christmas tree! Take a hayride to the field! Warm up afterward with hot chocolate or chili. Fill your home with evergreen with a fresh wreath, swag or centerpiece.

The 23rd annual Celebration of Lights Parade & Fireworks in Poughkeepsie is Fri., Dec. 2nd!
