Designer Kathleen Tesnakis has been growing her business in Troy, NY for the last 13 years. Kathleen and her team carry on the thread of hand making clothing and accessories through a modernized version of recycling. Why is this pertinent today? With global warming, environmental pollution due to manufacturing processes and over consumption that contribute to over flowing landfills, recycling helps keep the balance. At Ekologic, recycling is an art form. Kathleen and her team specialize in transforming old cashmere sweaters into new wearable art.
You may visit Ekologic’s showroom / store by appointment or just drop by 10:00-5:30 M-F, 11:00-3:00 Saturdays. Recently, Ekologic launched a new website allowing shoppers to purchase their unique products right from your desktop or phone. Definitely check them out for local sustainably made gift items.

Hunger in Troy and Capital Roots are partnering again this year to bring a #GivingTuesday food drive to Downtown Troy. #GivingTuesday is an initiative celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving alongside the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Last year, with your help, more than 700 pounds of healthy food was donated and distributed to food pantries and soup kitchens across the City of Troy. This year, our goal is to collect 2,000 pounds.
You can donate in two ways: (1) drop-off fresh or nonperishable healthy items to a designated location downtown (2) purchase cases of produce at wholesale cost through Capital Roots’ Produce Market (594 River Street) or online (www.capitalroots.org). #GivingTuesday donations will run between Monday, November 21st and Friday December 3rd and be distributed through Capital Roots’ Squash Hunger program. For more information, please contact Marissa at Capital Roots at 518-274-8685.
