A Favorite Poem – The Vineyard For National Poetry Month, we want to share a very special poem written for us by one of our first and favorite customers, Jack Townsend. Jack and his wife, Bonnie, were regulars when we first opened. We were so sad when Jack passed away, but we’re always happy to see Bonnie and others in their family. Jack’s poem, dated Labor Day 2007, has a special spot just inside the door or our tasting room in Ghent. Here it is. THE VINEYARD Lift high your glass Then sip the wine And roll it on your tongue Its essence e’er Shall linger there As a song that’s been well sung. Gaze o’er the field’s Grape-laden vines And views that lie beyond Where warming sun Greets morning dew On the vineyard o’er the pond Breathe in the crisp Clean country air And hear the wren’s sweet trill Far from the city’s Noise and strife That’s our homestead on the hill. |
